Dr. Shane C. Szarkowski is Editor–in–Chief of Diplomatic Courier and the Executive Director of World in 2050. A Marine Corps veteran, he is an experienced editor and analyst whose expertise includes energy, security, and state failure.
Shane wrote his PhD at Oxford Brookes University, where he focused on the intersection of history, sovereign identity, and intervention in Afghanistan. He has also taught—and in some cases designed—undergraduate courses in political theory, political philosophy, international relations, counter-terrorism, and U.S. Constitutional law.
Prior to joining Diplomatic Courier and World in 2050, Shane held positions as Associate Director (Energy) at Bulletin Intelligence, Editor in Chief at Charged Affairs, and Policy Editor at PRIME Research.
Shane's time as a Marine had him serving in a variety of interesting places around the world—including Guantanamo Bay (pre-9/11); Riga, Latvia; Colombo, Sri Lanka; and Tashkent, Uzbekistan (with the late Gen. Colin Powell, who was then U.S. Secretary of State.) It was these formative years that gave Shane an interest in U.S. security practices and the broader field of global affairs. It also gave him a taste for travel, having lived in seven countries (and counting).
