Prof. Dr. Maria Rentetzi is professor and chair of Science, Technology and Gender Studies at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg in Germany. She is on sabbatical as Science Diplomacy Fellow at the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies in Denmark. Trained as a physicist in Thessaloniki, Greece, she holds an MA in the History of Science and Technology from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece and a PhD in Science and Technology Studies from Virginia Tech, U.S. She has held distinguished positions at institutions including the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Tel Aviv University, and the Technical University in Berlin. Her work has been honored with major international awards such as the Gutenberg-e Prize in the U.S. (2004) and an ERC Consolidator Grant in the EU (2019-2025). Her research centers on the history of radioactivity and nuclear sciences, gender science studies, and science diplomacy, and my publications include numerous monographs and edited volumes as well as a children’s book. Starting on 1 July 2026, Rentetzi will co-chair the EU Science Diplomacy Alliance.
