January 19, 2023 – Today, at DAVOS 2023, the Learning Economy Foundation (LEF), in collaboration with Diplomatic Courier, announced the launch of an open source software developer kit for the LearnCard Network. This MIT-license toolkit provides the framework for creating decentralized learning and employment record ecosystems. The launch was part of an impactful discussion moderated by Chris Purifoy, Learning Economy Foundation's CEO, focusing on the evolving role of Digital Wallets and governance in future talent ecosystems. The discussion featured industry leaders from LinkedIn, Circle, and XPRIZE.
LEF's recent research report, "Exploring DAOs as an Organizational Structure for the Internet of Education," published and distributed by the Diplomatic Courier, laid important groundwork for this toolkit. While the report initially examined Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) as a possible governance structure for education, it concluded that DAOs are not the complete answer. Instead, the research emphasized the potential of protocol-driven federated networks for self-governance, using W3C standards for digital IDs and verifiable credentials.
The open source toolkit is a direct application of these research insights, designed to facilitate the formation of global, autonomous networks in the educational domain. LEF warmly invites scholars, policymakers, and technologists to delve into this toolkit and contribute to the ongoing conversation around self-governance and the Internet of Education.
