ashington, DC — October 24, 2024: With approval from NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division, Diplomatic Courier has joined as the official media partner for the “2024 WMGIC x NATO HQ Countering Disinformation Challenge.” Organized by the William & Mary Global Innovation Challenge, this case competition engages undergraduate students to develop proposals to address various topics in disinformation critical to the NATO Alliance.

Over several hours, hundreds of undergraduate students will compete to propose the best way for NATO to counter disinformation from a policy perspective in one of the following topic areas: Artificial Intelligence, Public Health, Russia-Ukraine War, Gender-Based Violence, Terrorism, Climate Change (Climate Security), Climate Change (Clean Energy), and Human Rights. Each plan of action will consider NATO’s existing capacity and what actions NATO should implement within the next 12 months.

Panels of expert judges will evaluate the proposals and select one winner from each stream, with each winning team receiving a $500 prize from WMGIC. The winners will be announced during Closing Ceremonies and will publicly present their pitch. Ambassador Douglas E. Lute (Lieutenant General, U.S. Army, Retired, Former U.S. Ambassador to NATO) will be delivering the Keynote Address at the event.

The partnership with Diplomatic Courier will allow WMGIC x NATO HQ to connect to more undergraduates and mentors and inspire them to think critically, creatively, and collaboratively about disinformation and the NATO Alliance.

This competition is sponsored by NATO Headquarters and organized by William & Mary.
