This year from September 19th to 29th, the DC Shorts Film Festival will screen over 150 international films in 6 theaters in and around Washington DC. This year’s 11 day event has a special focus on Russian filmmakers and has the largest collection of Russian shorts in the country. The festival will show shorts from 23 nations with genres including drama, comedy, documentary, animation, and more.
In the Thriller category, the number one must see is La Hija.
Thriller did not make a large a large showing in this year’s festival--only three films will be shown and all of them are must sees. The number one must see, however, is La Hija.
A young girl is obsessed with water balloons and is constantly trying to get her father to pay attention to her. Her wild imagination convinces her that the balloons are alive and they become her constant companions as she attempts to gain the attention of her uncaring father. The tale turns darker with each passing moment, and you cannot help but feel for this deprived little girl. A cliff-hanger ending, however, leaves you breathless and frightened.
