This year from September 19th to 29th, the DC Shorts Film Festival will screen over 150 international films in 6 theaters in and around Washington DC. This year’s 11 day event has a special focus on Russian filmmakers and has the largest collection of Russian shorts in the country. The festival will show shorts from 23 nations with genres including drama, comedy, documentary, animation, and more.
In the Experimental category, the number one must see is She is Love.
Lasting 7 minutes, She is Love depicts a young boy in the wake of war who finds a way to escape. No words are spoken as the boy walks around the war ravaged village in his oversized coat. All around him are the dead and dying, a sight he has seen many times. Emotionless he walks, looking for something unknown. His faithful dog walks with him, scavenging for food and life.
The film takes a turn when the boy discovers something different in a frozen pond. He encounters unsuspected life and a possible route of escape.
She is Love is beautifully filmed with stunning cinematography and expressive visuals, and is the number one must see Experimental film of the festival.
